Canal du Midi

Carcassonne
This is a walled medieval city that is standing on a hill and capped with pointed towers. It is located 42 kilometers from Canet. The fortified upper city is named La Cite where visitors walk on cobblestone streets that are lined with shops selling all kinds of traditional wares. The city was listed by the United National Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization or the UNESCO in 1997 as part of its World Heritage List, one of the 28 sites found in France.
The Basilica of St. Nazaire
The Basilica is a basilica minor also located in Carcassonne. It is listed as one of the national monuments of France and was formerly known as the Cathedral of Carcassonne. It was replaced by the present Carcassonne Cathedral in 1801. This basilica was built on the site of a Carolingian cathedral. Originally of Romanesque origin in the 11th century, the basilica was enlarged in the Gothic style between 1269 and 1330.
