Different Options for using Zebra Rugs

October 12, 2010 – Decorating with a zebra rug is easy because it goes with a lot of different styles. You can buy conventional rugs that are shaped like a zebra shape or you can get regular shapes like rectangles, squares or circles.

The first thing you need to consider is for whom the decoration will be. Is it for a nursery, a teenager’s room, a young professional or a rock star. Age and personality are the main factors that would affect your theme. Once you determine these things, you can say just how much zebra print you want in your room.

Be careful not to fill up the whole room with zebra prints though, it can come across as trashy and cheap. You have to combine it with a color, or even another print, just make sure that you keep a balance. You can use this print to highlight certain areas of your room. As a rug, you can place it at the center of the room and surround it with solid colored furniture. Do not mix the zebra stripes with other stripes because it is just going to contradict with each other. Any kind of lines, checks and polka dots are not recommended especially if they have some black or white color on them.

Try to combine the zebra rug with floral appliqué. For example, a bunch of red roses at the edge of the zebra rug looks so stylish it can even resemble the old Hollywood style. For a younger client, you can add bright flowers or pink flowers instead.

Any color you choose needn’t match the expected black and white colors of a zebra print. It is possible to find zebra rugs in almost any color imaginable. You can even find a teal rug with a zebra print. The walls and the floor of the room in which you use a zebra rug should be in plain solid color so that the zebra print stands out. You can introduce other prints, like a tribal or African print for a nice safari look. Pairing it with brights, neons, and other stuff is a suitable design for a teenager who is into music or young at heart. Add some emo logo, a rock band poster, and some flashy lights would liven it up as well.
